The 12 Days of Christmas Show (Article from CR)

This article has been taken from the creative review blog (Posted by Gavin Lucas, 17 November 2008);

"Christmas is, as most blog-readers around the world know, a time for giving and, we hope, receiving presents. However, there are, of course, those not fortunate enough to be sat indoors perusing the world wide web and its many wares, for whom Christmas represents a miserably cold and lonely time of year: homeless people. It is with those less fortunate than themselves in mind that the big-hearted folks at London-based design agency Studio8 Design have cooked up a festive art event, The 12 Days of Christmas, to raise money for the UK's premier housing and homeless charity Shelter."

"For the project, Matt Willey and Zoƫ Bather at Studio8 Design have commissioned 12 image makers (including HelloVon, Tom Gault, Astrid Chesney, Adrian Johnson and Si Scott) to each illustrate a line from the well known Christmas song The 12 Days of Christmas. The 12 illustrations will be exhibited as 12 large format 80 x 60cm prints (printed by Granite Colour) at the exhibition which will run for one night only on 3rd December. As well as sales of the one-off prints, money will also be raised for Shelter by the sale of packs of 12 A6 cards (also printed by Granite Colour on paper provided by Fedrigoni) featuring the illustrations."

More Christmassy Fare (Article from CR)

This article has been taken from the creative review blog;

"A group of third year graphic design students from Salford University have come up with a scheme to make money for their end-of-year show by asking top illustrators and designers to create a Christmas card for them, which they are selling online. And with the likes of Jeremyville, Parra and Paul Davis involved, the results make for the nicest Christmas cards we've seen in a while. Here's a taster of the collection - the rest can be viewed online at http://cardboardsu.blogspot.com and can be ordered there in packs of five for £4.50 or as single cards for a £1. Bargain!"

A Flat-Packed Christmas (Article from CR)

This article has been taken from the creative review blog.

"We first saw Alexander Glenn's work as part of his Nottingham Trent University degree show at the New Designers event last summer. Being the nice chap that he is, the young designer stayed in touch; even including us on his Christmas card list. And here's what he sent: an Ikea-style, flat-packed Christmas tree that you can assemble and proudly stand on your desk. It comes complete with instructions and that all important hotline number you can ring in case some of the bits are missing (rather more helpfully, this one puts you in contact with Glenn's own studio)..."

"Of his Christmas card Glenn reveals that, as well as offering seasonal greetings, it "looks at the throw-away society and mass consumerism especially around Christmas time. The idea of a flat-pack Christmas card reflected this idea and lent itself to Ikea's furniture, while making it cheap to post too. Recipients can then build their own Christmas card, which is more interesting than a bit of folding card."

"The accompanying instructions:"

I also received a booklet containing a range of thick paper/card which I have used to source a 400 g/m ivory board at a local printers.

Photographs of samples I received in the post.
